Insulated cable sleeves are designed to be crimped onto multi-strand cables (so-called cables), and their purpose is to hold all the individual wires of the cable together and to stiffen them before they are screwed into the terminal.

The use of ferrules ensures greater resistance of the connection to mechanical vibrations and reduces the likelihood of short circuits. Cable ferrules have a significant impact on the proper operation of electrical equipment and installations. Terminating a multi-strand cable with a ferrule greatly facilitates its installation, e.g. in a terminal block.

In the case of both insulated and non-insulated ferrules, the metal part of the terminal is crimped onto the cable, whilst the insulation remains uncrimped, acting as a bend guard to protect the cable from excessive bending.
