The device allows for easy diagnosis and rapid detection of damage to the cylinder head gasket. If the cylinder head gasket or the cylinder head itself is damaged, some of the exhaust gases, containing CO2 among other substances, enter the cooling system. The device operates by measuring the CO2 content in the cooling system. The reaction fluid in the tester chamber reacts with the gases from the cooling system and changes colour if the CO2 content is elevated. The device’s dual-chamber design (with a filter between the chambers) allows for the separation of residues in the first chamber (e.g. coolant droplets) which could adversely affect the test result.
