Turn your phone into a paint thickness gauge! The SMART series paint thickness gauges allow connection to your phone via Bluetooth. Thanks to the free GL-SMART app, you gain access to a range of additional features not available on standard paint thickness gauges. The gauge can also be operated without a phone, as it has a built-in LCD display.

GL-SMART app The GL-SMART app, developed for Android and iOS, allows you to connect to a SMART series paint thickness gauge. Depending on the gauge model, you gain access to a range of new features not available on standard gauges. The app currently runs on Android version 6 or higher and on iOS version 14.1 or higher. App updates provided by the manufacturer are free of charge. A key advantage of the app is that it will be continuously refined and expanded. The GL-SMART app can be downloaded from Google Play and the App Store. • The GL-SMART app is intuitive to use. Upon launch, the home screen will appear, allowing you to select one of the following options:
• basic measurement;
• professional measurement;
• measurement catalogue;
• calibration.
• basic measurement;
• extended measurement with measurement records;
• professional measurement including measurement of individual body panels + pillars;
• option to take 24 photos for each car;
• generation of reports containing measurements and additional information such as make, registration number, VIN, comments, etc.;
• exporting reports to a PDF file;
• Measurement Assistant ®;
• the app is constantly being developed and will continue to be expanded with new features; updates will always be free.

Please note. Upon launch or when selecting a specific function, the app may request permission to access your location, camera and media. Permission to access your location is essential for Bluetooth 4 to work; this is a technical requirement of the Android system. We do not collect any information regarding your phone’s location.

• Basic measurement

Once you select this feature, a list of detected meters will be displayed – please select one of them. The app will enter measurement mode in ‘basic view’. Switching to “extended view” will reveal additional functions: a table listing the measurements, a graph showing the measurements, and the option to save measurements to the measurement directory. To take a measurement, you must also switch to the measurement function in the meter’s MENU. Once the meter is placed against the vehicle body, the measurement will be displayed on the meter’s LCD screen and in the GL-SMART app.

• Professional measurement

This allows measurement broken down into individual bodywork components. A graphic showing a view of the car broken down into individual sections will be displayed. After selecting a specific section, the view shown in the photo on the left will be displayed. The measurement is performed in the same way as described in the “basic measurement” function. In professional mode, it is also possible to save measurements as a report. With the GL-SMART version of the meter, you can take 24 photos for each vehicle being measured. To do this, click on the camera icon in the top right-hand corner of the app. The photos will be saved in a folder along with the measurement for that vehicle. Photos are saved separately for each vehicle tested.

• Measurement directory

Contains saved measurements divided into professional (icons with a dark blue border) and basic (icons with a green border). By selecting a specific measurement file, you can edit data such as make, engine, model, mileage, details of the person carrying out the measurements, conclusions, etc. Additionally, a professional measurement file includes a function to export data to a PDF file in the form of a report.

• PROBE

The meter features a spring-mounted measuring head, designed so that when the probe is pressed against the surface being tested, it gently ‘slides’ into the meter housing and deflects slightly to the sides. This makes the measurement more accurate due to more even pressure on the surface being tested. Hand tremors are also minimised. The probe tip is made of high-quality plastic, ensuring it will last for years.

• MEASUREMENT ASSISTANT® FUNCTION
• It advises the vehicle assessor whether the car has undergone bodywork and paint repairs.

HOLD FUNCTION This is a feature found in the most expensive gauges. It allows you to take a measurement and hold it, so you can move the gauge away from the surface being tested and read the measurement. The HOLD function is permanently active.

How the MEASUREMENT ASSISTANT® function works

When the MEASUREMENT ASSISTANT® function is enabled, the meter displays messages on the screen during measurements informing you of the condition of the bodywork:

• "THIN" – paint too thin
• "PAINT OK" – paint is correct
• "2xPAINT" – second coat of paint
• "FILLER!" – body filler

It should be noted that the MEASUREMENT ASSISTANT® function is only intended to assist in interpreting measurements; it cannot be used as a definitive basis for determining whether a car has undergone bodywork and paint repairs. Nevertheless, many people who assess cars do not really know what a given paint thickness means, which is why this function is designed to help.
