The microprocessor-controlled charger is a device designed to charge various types of lead-acid batteries. The charger converts the current and voltage present in the mains supply to levels that allow the battery to be charged safely. The Zx.xA chargers can charge all types of lead-acid batteries: STD, AGM, GEL (-20°C to +40°C).
Technical specifications:
Both GEL and AGM batteries are advanced versions of lead-acid batteries. In the case of GEL batteries, the electrolyte is in gel form, obtained by mixing sulphuric acid with silica.
AGM batteries, on the other hand, are based on technology using glass mats that absorb liquid electrolyte.
They allow a 12 V battery to be charged even if its voltage has dropped to 8 V (3 V for a 6 V battery).
They have built-in protection against reverse polarity, overheating, short circuits, low voltage and overcharging. Another significant advantage is their ability to operate in ‘maintenance’ mode – providing a trickle charge to extend the life of a battery that has not been used for a long time (e.g. a motorcycle battery in winter).
